My friend and I were asking residents of our community about how they felt about the work our treasurer was doing. The intention was to spotlight some of the unethical and illegal practices. i.e. publishing who i slate on paying hteri dues and providing a list iwth name and numbers along with the information. (From what I can tell a violation of the Fair Debt Collections Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act). When they got wind, they began harassing him stating there was a petition to remove the Treasurer, which there was not. THEY ASKED FOR HIS RESIGNATION FROM THE BOARD AS VP.

This is wrong and looks like an act to stiffle freedom of speech. What can be done?!? I am outraged.

Oh my gosh, I started working at Old Navy recentally and we do not recycle anything. That dosen't sound so bad but I help with shipment and you should see the load of boxes that go off to a dumpster. Every T shirt is wrapped in plastic and they sometimes ship one t shirt in a huge box......one shirt. I hate it becuase I recycle at home and it makes me feel like why should I even try recycling if they dump a ton of it weekly. We have shipment weekly and there are enough broken down boxes and plastic when we are done to fill at least two semis. It is redicilous and all the managers say is well....we can't do anything. Not enough people are aware of it or else I do not believe they would shop there.

During the religious knowledge classes I'm working on an essay about Westboro Baptist Church, and so far I have laughed one time per sentence because of how absurd this sect is. They haven't developed since the 50's except their language that has become more improper than before.

I'm from Sweden so I heard on the news about those maniacs, I feel a little bit sorry for the children that have been raised in the sect, four of Phelps children have been ostrasized because they left his sect. Every person should have a right to have contact with his parents and family.

I agree about the importance in preserving the freedom and that's an important discussion here in Sweden to, we are a peaceful country (except the factory Bofors that build and sell weapons despite our no war policy, the fact that Sweden sold weapons to nazi-germany and the allied forces during WW2 and that the government allowed Nazi-soldiers to pass through our country so they could attack Norway. Oh I almost forgot I heard a while ago that the government deported some Baltic refugees to Sovjet). Our government might have been a bunch of hypocrites and might be today too and they are to afraid to affend the public to say anything negative about anything or anyone but it's important to avoid judging a people because of their countrys laws or government.

The thing is that we protect our individuality so if you like, accept or dislike homosexual people is a very personal question and many persons prefer to keep their opinion for themselves. The thing about the preacher (Åke Green) who got prosecuted due to his opinion about homosexual persons was not that he expressed his opinion, it was the way he expressed his opinion.

In Uppsala there was a racebiologicalinstitute that began to messure peoples bodies and classifie them, neither our government, the parliament or the people in Sweden wants to make difference between people therefore we try to avoid to that people express their opinion in a to extreme way, like calling homosexual persons a cancertumour on the society. The nazists thought that jews were a danger to and a tumour on the society.

I hope that Phelps would reconsider his opinions and read the Bible and read the whole Bible instead of reading one sentence, I'm an agnostic but I have problably read more of the Bible than that preacher.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------A MESSAGE FROM SWEDEN TO WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH

We do not hate you! It doesn't matter what you believe in and protest for we still do not hate you. We feel sorry for your children that you ostracized from your family and ask you one thing, if you don't want to reconsider your beliefs then at least change your way to express them. There's no sense in offending people and embracing hate and contempt.

You can't force people to believe, faith comes from the heart not from a indoctrinated brain.

I've got to say. I worked in a call center once (I was a customer service rep for DirecTV) and everything you say here rings so true! It's funny how concious it made me, afterwards, of what kind of customer I was being any time I had to call someone.

Just read your blog on Gay Bars in Nashville while doing a search on Illusions. Had to agree a hundred percent. My favorite spot was The Chute (easy to park myself and people watch, large enough to have a good crowd). When it closed, i didnt know what to do with myself: liked Blue Jeans the best but it is so small that you do all your people watching in 30 seconds. Nothing else interested me. Personally I'm just not interested in straight bars: Guys and girls getting drunk and making asses of themselves. I feel comfortable with other gays. With cruising and chat rooms dead, clubs dying, how do gay men meet each other?

Now, I'm not a poem guy. But I read this in a book on journaling. Think you might like.

"I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud"
by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed---and gazed---but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils

I, too, tend to over-empathize and feel the urge to "people-please."

I don't think it makes you a doormat, or the rest of the world full of jerks. It just means you learn from others' poor social mistakes. Which is hella good in my book.

Holy crap!

That's awesome, LOL!

How do you think the mom found out about the pictures though? And why nuke the poor kid with threats? If you're stupid enough that you can't let your daughter fight her own fights, what's the point of just leveling threats at him?

I love your new theme, by the way.

Don't you love the fall?

I recently opened a savings account to drop a small amount from every paycheck into.

My original plan was to save up for a week-long trip to Germany. But the more I think about it, it could really contribute to a multitude of big ideas (better car, better digs, my own business).

So not only am I saving up for the future, I'm giving myself more options on what to do once I get there.

In your case, I'd say it's a zero-stress way of making those "long-term" plans you feel like you're missing.

Good luck!

Hi Xanik (Aaron),

I just wanted to say that I am a fan of your blog. I ran across your site while searching for a wisdom quote for a birthday card I'm making. I'm a fan of blogs that talk about creative ideas and the potential to achieve your personal and professional best. Yours is insightful and clear, and the wisdom you provide is inspirational. Thank you!

Regards,
Ashley

Man, I'm straight, and I don't want that life! I mean, kids, almost definitely. Wife? Maybe--haven't quite decided how I feel on institutionalized marriage just yet. But I live in a city with my long-term girlfriend, and I don't want to move to a suburb and join the PTA either!

So right on, good sir.

Comment on Old Navy Doesn’t Recycle Their Hangers? by ON employee

I am so glad that you care about our environment as much as you do...I wish that more people did! As an employee at the Rockville, Md store let me attempt to clear the air a wee bit....

The cashiers are instructed to leave the hangers on the clothes as they are being purchased so that the customer can dispose of them however they see fit. When a customer specifically asks to have the hangers removed, we do so, and put them in a bin under our counters. At the end of the night we box/bag them up and put them in storage (with a constant influx of new employees, perhaps they don't realize we do this). We DO reuse as many of them as we can (we are constantly putting merchandise on clearance and need the hangers to hang the items in our clearance section). What we don't use, which isn't that many, does go in the trash...it's true...and something that I don't particularly agree with, but we don't have a recycling bin suitable for something that is both plastic and metal which are two items that need to be separated when recycling. Montgomery County does have certain recycling rules and procedures which we do abide by and we have even set up small recycling bins in our break room for soda cans, bottles and paper products. While the "hanger issue" continues to be just that...an issue...we are trying our best (at the Rockville store) to be environmentally conscientious.

Please do notify Gap Inc about the disposal of these hangers, perhaps they'll switch to all to plastic hangers, which would be much easier to recycle!
