I read this heart-wrenching story on CNN this morning, about Chantal Sebire. She had esthesioneuroblastoma, a form of non-curable cancer in her nasal passages and sinuses that caused a considerable amount of facial distortion, and excruciating pain. She fought, and lost, a battle in France to allow her to have assisted suicide, to avoid further pain and humility. She was found dead today. Causes are yet unknown.
Would YOU Want To Be In Her Position?
For all of those who disagree with assisted suicide, what would you do if you had a disfigured face, was in an extreme amount of pain all the time, and there was nothing doctors could do for you? (Pray it away?) Let’s be realistic about something… I doubt very many people in the world could stand living years/decades in that kind of situation. While you’re suffering, you also watch your family suffer the grief that they’re slowly watching you die an agonizing death, while money for ‘treatments’ that don’t do much gets sucked down the drain.
You can tell people to ‘pray’ and hope for a miracle all you want, but those are extremely rare indeed. Be pious all you want, but remember being pious when you’re stricken with such a debilitating disease and there’s nothing you can do about it. Remember all of those times you fought so hard to keep some of those people alive, when you yourself are now begging for an end. It disgusts me to no end how people would much rather see everything ‘pretty’ when in reality life can be sometimes anything but.
She had a good body though.
In most religions suicide is the “ultimate” sin – as in unforgivable. So if she’s praying she probably wont opt for the suicide way. Also if she’s truly a believer she wouldn’t care about the looks part at all – face it, that’s a worldly thing. I think most people would say that actively partaking in assisted suicide is murder in a softer form. Passive Euthanasia i can see.
However you call it, it’s the same thing. If you read the story, you would see it wasn’t just about being disfigured, but also in incredible, un-treatable pain.
