Ultra-Conservative Christians May Want A Third-Party Candidate

October 2, 2007 by Xanik

I can’t for the life of me find a referring article online, but I remember watching a report last night on TV on one of the news stations that was reporting how a lot of those ‘hard-core’ Christian groups are getting more and more fed up with the Republican party. Apparently, they are willing to go as far as endorse a third-party candidate that better-supports their ideals. I say, go for it! Go ahead, endorse a third-party candidate, and end up losing the next election.

More After The Jump…

I remember speaking with a lot of people who are Republicans. While they don’t necessarily agree with some of the typical platforms like anti stem cell research, abortion, or gay marriage, they still agree with the ’standard’ Republican beliefs. (More conservative, more for war, money, etc.) Republicans have traditionally sought after ultra-conservative Christian groups to get their votes. (Ala President Reagan.) That’s changing though. It certainly seems like the lines are being blurred, as candidates are realizing they can no longer reach out to just certain groups of people. Political parties are now trying to have a more ‘balanced’ campaign, which is producing some interesting stances on issues.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: People may be stupid, but they’ll only stay stupid for so long. People in America are realizing that some most of the crap spewing from these ultra-conservative Christian groups is just that, crap. People like Ted Haggard are proving that they are hypocrites themselves, and don’t practice what they preach. People are beginning to understand that being gay, different, and outside of the norm should be embraced, not condemned. UCC’s are having to rethink their strategies because of this, and I believe they are going to fail, hard, especially if they try to split off and invent a new political party.

I may not speak for everyone, but I know I am tired of a losing war that has no end in sight. I’m tired of certain groups making it seem like I need to be ‘fixed.’ I’m tired of hearing about illegal immigrants, yet no viable solution being provided from anyone. I’m fed up with airlines, the RIAA, and internet companies like Comcast and AT&T that seem like they are getting out of control. I’m sick of these high and mighty religious/political figures who get caught doing something they constantly denounce themselves, then want to ‘go to God’ and get away with it. We need change, now, or out country will truly start on the road of being un-salvageable.
