I normally don’t brag about free software, but I have to admit, I found a gem last night while searching for a program to clean up the registry after about an hour of getting rid of programs I never use: Advanced WindowsCare Personal.
What It Can Do & What I Did
- Remove Spyware & Adware
- Prevent Security Threats
- Privacy Protection
- Fixing Registry Errors
- Temporary Files Cleanup
- Startup Item Management
I chose to fix the items in bold. The biggest thing was the registry errors, as I know from experience constantly installing/un-installing software creates a mess of the registry. I didn’t have many temporary files to clean up, as I usually keep those in check on a regular basis as it is. The program gives you a full list of startup items, and you can check which ones you want to stop. (For me, iTunes Helper was the big one, as it takes up way too much memory for my tastes.)
The options not in bold, I did not choose to fix. That mostly has to do with the fact that I already keep those kinds of issues at bay with other programs that do the job just fine. (I’m always leery of new programs messing with my security settings anyways.) Though, a quick search didn’t turn up anything incredibly bad about the program, so I’ll assume it’s safe.
How It Performed And Where To Get It
On my computer, it did seem to speed things up a little bit. (Though, not increasing my frame rates in World of Warcraft like I was hoping…) But when I tried it on Allen’s, there did seem to be quite a noticeable speed increase. (Though to be fair, I doubt he maintains his computer the way I do on a regular basis.) For being a free program, this is simply awesome, and I highly recommend it!
